David Lynn Jones **************** A performer who leans more towards the rock and blues side of country music. David Lynn Jones, from Bexar, Arkansas, is a singer-songwriter who has never slotted into the Nashville mainstream. He has been perfoming since the early 1970's, where his uncompromising style of country with it's Springsteen and Dylan overtones won him a cult following. He made his initial impact in Nashville as a writer, but his reputation as a dynamic performer led to a recording contract with Mercury in 1986 and a Top 10 entry with "Bonnie Jean" the following year. His debut CD, "Hard Times On Easy Street", received rave reviews, grabbing him some attention from outside of country music. Waylon Jennings added harmonies to "High Ridin' Horses" [top 20 in 1988]. Becoming disillusioned with Nashville, David Lynn Jones maintained a base in Bexar where he had built his own studio and continued working with musicians who had played with him since the beginning. A second CD for Mercury failed to gain any commercial acceptance, so he turned to his musical beginnings of playing honky-tonks and clubs. Another shot at the big time was offered when Jimmy Bowen signed him to Liberty Records in 1992. This time David Lynn Jones was determined to do it his way, and his third CD, "Mixed Emotions", was recorded in his own studios. The project was a joint production between the David Lynn Jones and Richie Albright, who had produced some of Waylon Jenning's edgier work. For once David Lynn Jones highly charged blend of country, rock, gospel & soul had finally been allowed to fly free. From spicy rock'n'roll to blues-tingling numbers, this was a roots-oriented collage of every emotion that encapsulates the essence of country.
