Meet Our Staff

As a mental health clinic and training center, our therapists cover a range of experience levels, from licensed psychologists with almost four decades of experience to beginning therapists. This range allows for our fee structure to meet most budgets. All therapists below are trained in EMDR and attachment disorders.

Joanne May, Ph.D., L.P., L.M.F.T. (email) is the Family Attachment Center's founder. Dr. May has been in the mental health field for over 35 years and holds competencies in individual, couples and family therapy, with special training in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, EMDR, and Attachment Disorders in children and adolescents.

Denise B. Lacher, M.A., L.P. (email) is the Family Attachment Center's Director of Attachment Programs. Ms. Lacher has received extensive training in attachment theory, post traumatic stress disorders, and parenting. Ms. Lacher came to the Center in 1994, and specializes in EMDR and Family Attachment Narrative Therapy. Ms. Lacher has presented nationally on attachment and treatment of attachment disturbances.

Melissa Nichols, M.A., L.M.F.T. (email) is a lead therapist in the Family Attachment Center's intensive outpatient therapy program. She specializes in working with children, adolescents and their families who have suffered early childhood maltreatment or trauma. Ms. Nichols has received extensive training in attachment and treatment for attachment difficulties, post traumatic stress disorders and parenting. She is lead author of Parenting with Stories and originator of the First Steps for Strengthening Adoptive Families program. Ms Nichols is Program Director for Family Attachment Center's Day Treatment/Social Skills programs, parent support groups and education. She holds graduate degrees in theology and counseling in psychology. Ms. Nichols also presents nationally on topics of attachment and Family Attachment Narrative Therapy.

Stephanie Zimmerman, MSW, LICSW (email) joined the Family Attachment Center in 2006. Ms. Zimmerman worked as a social worker in a school setting for approximately eight years and as a clinical social worker in an outpatient clinic prior to joining the Family Attachment Center. She provides therapeutic services to children, adults and families and is also a lead therapist in the Family Attachment intensive outpatient program.

Connie Dummer, MA, LP, LMFT, RPT-S (email) joined the Family Attachment Center in August 2008. Previously she worked for the Christian Recovery Center from Nov 1993 until Aug 2008. Connie is trained in EMDR and works with adults, families, and children. She has been a Registered Play Therapist since December 2004 and is registered at the supervisor level.

Todd Nichols, M.A., M.P.Aff. (email) is the Family Attachment Center's Executive Director and researcher.

Additionally, the Family Attachment Center has rotating interns available for appointments.
